I've seen a 5ft tall shrub with orange berries/flowers. Any ideas?.

I've ruled out buddleia, too early. Looks nothing like pil cotoneaster.

It's in a garden on a fast road so I can't stop and get a picture.

Berberis?
Were the leaves very dark green?

I should add that the flowers come in lots of different colours but I think the orange ones are the most striking. Until you get close up they actually look like little orange berries

Are you near the coast? Could it be Sea Buckthorn?

Could be a Pyracantha.

Fairly upright in shape, yes dark green leaves.

I don't think it was a pycan, the flowers/berries were in little orange globes like the buddleia but it's too early for a budd.

Will look up Berberis.

I love Berberis, in my last garden there was a monster hedge of it running alongside some steps. In the Autumn when the petals dropped the steps would be a carpet of orange. It wasn't in a particularly dry spot and it certainly thrived.
For some reason I don't have one in this garden - I can for see a trip to the garden centre.
