What is everyone planning to grow this year?
I have the bluberry bushes, strawberries, apple and pear from last year and hopefully i will get some proper fruit this year. Will be growing peas/tomatos/lettuce for definate as they all did really well. Cape gooseberry plants did well but fruit needed a couple more weeks of sun and never quite made it ,possibly start earlier this time.

A big pot (I have a plastic flower pot about 14 ins across and about same depth), some general compost/soil, and some carrot seeds!I sow mine about March/ April time. The packet tells you how

mrsvern · 06/01/2007 21:34

handlemecarefully · 06/01/2007 21:37

I'd love to join you. I think I shall add this to threads I am watching. We are just having our garden 'done' (big project costing mega bucks) but it will include a vegetable patch, or to be more specific, 4 raised beds.

Did anyone see the grow your own vegetables programme on BBC2 on Friday night at 8.30 pm. It's a series on every week

handlemecarefully · 06/01/2007 21:39

They talked about jerusalem artichokes on the programme yesterday. Apparently they are harvested between November and February and you can make excellent chips with them!

nikkie · 06/01/2007 21:41

I just do pots/grow bags etc.Although I did slip rather a lot of plants into my Dads allotment last year

Peas/beans are easy , either in pots or garden just need something to grow up and kids will pick and pod them and eat the peas raw.

Tomatos can either be done from seed but need to be under cover to start or buy plants from Garden centre/market for about 50p each and you'll get loads

Lettuce /rocket/salad stuff easy I do it in a window box and have about 3 on rotation (1 new seeded, 1 growing/1 eating)

Strawberries easy-buy plants , then put in ground/pot then wait they wills end off runners at the end of the summer and then you get more plants for next year

missed that programme. I make it all up as I go along LOL

nikkie · 06/01/2007 21:45

My plastic green house thing blew away last week it was looking after my kiwi plant which weighted the base down but the rest went.found half the frame but the cover and the rest have disappeared
Are they in Wilkos yet?Thats a really good spot for seeds/pplant pots etc

I'd recommend it - the host has an infectious enthusiasm, and it's a really watchable programme

mrsvern · 06/01/2007 21:46

my plastic greenhouse is weighed down with abag of sand and is tied to the wall. They were clearing xmas stuff and filling gardening stuff in wilkos last week
