Is there anything which will grow under conifers ?

Just that really...long bare patch under conifers, have planted some shrubs but I think it is just too 'rooty' there. Any bulbs, corms, shallow rooted, thuggish plants even that I could try. Would prefer wildlife attracting but will settle for anything...

TIA Smile

You could try periwinkle which seems to grow anywhere, cyclamen might (the corm ones not the fibrous rooted variety), you need things that tolerate dry soil and shade, Euphorbia?

Well the brilliant thin is the needles make the soil underneath ericaceous: So camellias, azaleas, pieris, liliy of teh valley, rhodedendrons. irises.

Under my mothers conifers she has a mass of pale yellow irises with browny purple markings and they look stunning against the dark leaves above. They are neglected and so have spread over the years and love it there and do very well.

Lanium sometimes called dead nettle grows anywhere.

Misspelled lamium

Yes - but be careful, lamium can become VERY invasive.

OP - Yes, too 'rooty', but more importantly, probably too DRY. If you were able to water the area, might help/
