Getting rid of bamboo in tubs

We have inherited six large bamboo (up to 2m tall) in enormous tubs from the previous owners of our house. We want to get rid of them but it seems a shame to throw them away. I understand that some bamboo plants can be quite expensive to buy so I'm investigating advertising and selling them.

Any advice? I have no idea of the variety but can post a picture. I don't think they're anything special or rare. The oldest canes are quite thick, and brownish yellow. The overall appearance of canes and leaves is yellow, with a few green canes. I don't know if this indicates poor health? Taken together they'd certainly make an effective instant screen.

Is there a market for such things? eBay? Facebook selling pages? Gumtree?

Local Facebook groups? I'd grab them in a second if anyone advertised them near me!

ConesOfDunshire · 04/10/2015 00:03

I don't suppose you're in the west Midlands, zgaze?!

You could sell them on eBay?

Where abouts in the WM are you?

ConesOfDunshire · 04/10/2015 09:22

Solihull.

I'll investigate eBay; the limitation will be arranging collection. They wouldn't fit in a car, even one at a time, and they would need trimming to fit into a van.

I wouldn't worry about that, people love big bamboos and they can fetch a lot of money. I think if I were you I'd list them on EBay seperaely but add on the listing that you would be happy to sell together if negotiated.

How big are the pots? Large ceramic or terracotta pots themselves are bloody expensive to buy.

ConesOfDunshire · 04/10/2015 12:01

Thanks for all of your input. I'm going to try the local Facebook selling pages first, then eBay if no-one jumps at them.

Here are some sample pics of two of them. I am 6' and they are taller than me so they're approx 2m at their tallest. The tubs are black plastic. Would anyone be willing to suggest a fair price to ask, bearing in mind that they're probably not in the condition you'd expect from a nursery or garden centre?

Very grateful for all of your help!

I've sold heavy stuff on Gumtree before. I found it better than Facebook.

ThoseAwfulCurtains · 04/10/2015 12:11

For a quick sale - All 6 for £100 or £25 each. No offers.
But you could get more on Ebay I think.
Keep in mind that they can look as if they are at death's door in late spring but then bounce back by end of June.

Sadly I'm way down on the Kent coast :-( shame because if I was in any way near I'd have them, they're exactly what I keep trying to psych myself up to fork out hundred ms for online!

Donate to a local zoo?

SaltySeaBird · 05/10/2015 18:39

Our local zoo put out a request for bamboo recently - sadly too far from you though!

Hi Cones I might be interested if these are still available, depending on whereabouts you are in the West Mids.....I no longer do Facebook so haven't looked for them on there Wink
