Pollarding trees?

Hi I just had a quote of £3000 for pollarding 5 trees in my garden! Does that sound about right? My chin is still on the floor (bloody previous owners had promised to get them done pre move no wonder they didn't)
Also can you just cut a tree down or do you need permission it's only a sycamore! Any advise would be great. Thanks

Can't comment on the price, but that's a lot of trees, and it is an expert's job. As for cutting any down, consult your local council, you can probably find out the regulations online.

Thanks for your reply etch wish I'd pointed out to solicitor that it hadn't been done. It's gonna cost a fortune eh.

£3000! That is a lot, though I'm not entirely shocked and surprised by the quote as work on trees carries risk and a good tree surgeon will take time to do the job safely. Are they huuuuuge?

It's worth checking out whether the trees are protected, too - sometimes there are Tree Preservation Orders in place if you live in any kind of conservation area. It's worth contacting your local planning department to check.

Yes Shove it's a lot eh think I'm gonna have to sell a kidney! They are huge haven't been done for years and need 10+ ft taking off. I'm at the back of a modern housing estate so think they were here well before the houses I'll just have to check if there's a TPO on any of them and perhaps get another quote!
