An all year round plant to remember my baby

nousernameinspiration · 01/07/2015 16:59

Recently had a miscarriage and wanted to plant something in a pot to remember. Ideally something flowering and something which doesn't take too much work.

Can anyone recommend something?

I have sun and shade in my garden but obviously needs to work with UK weather!

Thank you

I'm so, so sorry for your loss Flowers. It's a lovely idea.

I think what you choose needs to be really personal to you. It depends a bit how large a plant you'd like, too - something like an amelanchier tree will grow in a very large pot (when watered) but might be larger than you're looking for?

Sadly, there have been several threads by other women who have been through the pain of miscarriage. You might find these helpful to read, but obviously everyone is different so there is no tailor-made solution: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/gardening/2402349-pot-plant-or-tree-to-to-remember-lost-baby-miscarriage-mentioned

Let us know what style and kind of thing you like and we will try to help find something that's right for you. Smile

How about a rose ?

You could name your own rose or there are loads with names already to choose from . You could put a patio rose in a pot ( please correct me if I'm wrong anybody ) Thanks for you.

I planted a fuscia in memory of my friend who died

Not in a pot, but it's still there even yet though I don't have green fingers

Thanks for sharing that link.

Baby was due in January - not a lot flowers then I guess?!!

I want a plant which can go in a pot. I am terrible at gardening though....

What is easy to grow?!

I would ideally like something which flowers with white flowers.

I am useless aren't i!

Sorry for your loss, nousername.

There are azaleas and camellias which are white, and flower early in the year. They can do well in pots.

nousernameinspiration · 02/07/2015 11:07

Oh I like azaleas. Do I need special compost / soil?

I'm so sorry for your loss. I would suggest a miniature rose that you could go easily in a pot. You can get them with white flowers.

For azaleas you need the same potting medium as for camellias and gardenias, acidic. If you google this, you'll find a specialist compost. All, the advice I have is Au-based, where most of these plants are grown in the ground.

All the best.
