What is this bush / tree (and why is it sick)?

Thought I would ask the mumsnet gardening experts if they know what this bush / tree is (used as hedging in our front garden). It has white flowers which smell amazing a bit later in spring / summer.

The leaves are turning yellow at the moment. Any ideas what this could be? And how I could fix it?

It's not Rhododendron is it?

I thought rhododendron too. Not sure about the yellow though-try feeding with tomato plant feed.

Looks like a pittosporum to me. Tobira? But usually it has fairly dark glossyish leaves?

No idea why it would be going yellow though.

It's not a variety of Hebe is it?

I think it looks like an azalea (which is a relative of the Rhododendron). They like acidic soil. You might need to find some ericaceous compost to put round it.

Not sure how else you can top up the acidity, but I"m sure someone might be along in a while.

Think Pegeon Pie is right having got glasses on. You can buy feed for them which you chuck around plant in the spring.

I agree re acidity/alkalinity of soil being an issue. You can buy feeds or powders to adjust it

Thank you everyone! Just realised I posted a terrible photo. Posting a couple of higher resolution photos of the (slightly healthier looking) version we have in our back garden - it's growing quite tall / tree-like. The flowers smell a bit like orange. Have taken another look at rhododendrons / azaleas online, and they don't look quite the same (but happy to be wrong on this!).

Needs to be in acid soil and have a special feed every year. Good mulch with ericaceous compost may help.

are the flowers like this?

Choisya is evergreen and has orange scented flowers (or is that orange blossom scented flowers. Just smells sickly to me.) Might just need a good mulch/feed or if it is choisya, it might need replacing, they seem to thrive for several years then go into terminal decline. Like all of us.

That has little white flowers which have a gorgeous scent, a bit like orange blossom.

No idea about the going yellow though, ours just gets covered in slugs.

We had a choisiya previously and it looked pretty different.

Thanks all - now investigating the yellow leaf problem. Sounds like iron sulphate could help?
