Rosemary, can I move it, is it going to take over like a trifid and am I going to kill it?

Last year I planted rosemary out into a circa 10inch pot in my south facing garden. It was one of those herbs that you buy in Waitrose in a small pot along with your fruit and veg, little more than a few sprigs really. I transferred it into the garden not expecting it to survive.

It's done remarkably well to have withstood the cold winter and is noticably bigger with roots which appear to be filling the 10 inch pot now. My question is, shall I plant it out into the garden? I'd rather like the scent of rosemary under my window but i). Will I kill it by planting it out? and ii). If I don't kill it will it take over the whole small border and engulf the lavender and roses I already have there?

Hi - you will be fine planting out your rosemary, it will not take over like mint.

Yes fine to plant it out. Rosemary is perfectly hardy in the UK.

Oh thanks, I appreciate the advice. I'm so chuffed at the fact that I've got it this far I'd be really annoyed if I killed it off now! :)

I found an enormous Rosemary bush amongst some currants and brambles so hopefully it's got a long life ahead of it. Have also transplanted a rather large Rosemary bush that is now in full flower. Will be fine!! Love rosemary.
