So I live in Sheffield, and it gets pretty cold here in the winter. There are usually a couple of days in January where the temperature will hit -8, and hard frosts all winter are pretty common.
I am putting up a greenhouse (this must be the millionth time I have mentioned this, as I am incredibly excited about it, apologies). It's going in a sheltered area at the bottom of my north-facing garden, which is out of the shadow of the house and therefore gets a fair bit of sun. The area is around 1m lower than the rest of the garden. There will be a 1.8m hedge to the back, and a 1.8m high fence to the right so it is reasonably protected from wind.
There is a border just behind the greenhouse, next to the fence, and most of the light hitting this will pass through the greenhouse, i.e. through both sides of it. I'm guessing it's going to be a really warm area. Will I be able to get away with planting some less hardy climbers up this, or is it too much of a risk? I'm wondering if I can get away with passiflora and solanum 'glasnevin' without bringing them indoors for the winter. (Both are coincidentally on sale in Aldi this Thursday for £1.79. Bargain
