My wildflower patch is a barren wasteland

Last year I decided to do a wildflower meadow. I bought a load of seed, cleared the spot, didn't use compost, scattered the seed. Nothing happened, not even many weeds.

I read up on it and, as I have a clay soil, it turns out that doing it last Autumn wasn't such a clever idea. So I've bought a load more, removed the few weeds there were and scattered again.

Nothing so far. I have visions of this gorgeous wilderness where bees and butterflies frolic but it looks more like a dodgy car park in the East End.

Should I be doing anything else? I scattered the seed (second time) last weekend so I may just be too impatient.

It's still very early, give it a few weeks :)

Thanks Methe. I think I'm impatient because I'm sick of the garden looking like a building site (we've had some hideous building work which has gone on for years).

Hi Cru,
Yes, it's still a bit too cold for the seedlings to start popping their heads up above ground.I know when I set off seeds indoors where it's a lot warmer, it can take 2-4 weeks for them to germinate, so being outdoors may take them longer.

Once it warms up - and make sure they've had some water, whether with rain or a watering can - they'll begin to appear.

Bet they'll look lovely!
