Cooking apple variety recommendations

Thanks to advice on an earlier thread I am going to order a bare root apple tree to plant in the winter. Trouble is, I feel spoilt for choice. I was going to go for a Bramley as that's the only variety I know, but now that I've started browsing, there's so much choice. Has anyone got any recommendations for delicious cookers? We've only got a small garden so only have room for one tree and it feels like a really big decision...

we had a bramley tree in our garden when i grew up. lovely apples, but the tree was enormous....nearly as big as some houses gardens

I love Howden's Wonder. Such lovely big apples.

We also have a Bramley at our community gardens. They fruit on the ends of the branches so you need to prune it differently to [most] other apples.

Sorry - Howgate wonder! Bah I keep saying the wrong name!!!

Thanks for these. Funnily enough I was looking at the triple ones online. I wasn't sure whether they were a proper thing and not a gimmick? If I can get one on semi dwarfing rootstock then that could be a great solution!

Ooh does he? I missed most of this week's G World but caught that some if it was about apples. Will try and see it on iplayer.
