Violas

Very new gardener here! I planted some violas a couple of months ago, I've kept up with deadheading but it now looks like they're coming to their natural end. My question is, if I leave them there will they come back next Spring? Or do I need to dig them up and replace them with something else?

Thanks in advance :)

Although violas are perennials, they often don't survive the heat of the summer. They do often self seed, and you probably could keep them going if you took good care of them, but most people would dig them up and replace them with something else.

Ah, glad I've seen this, my violas are looking a bit past their best, a bit weary, despite constantly dead-heading.

The only thing is, I've grown them in a big pot surrounding a lavender which hasn't flowered yet. Looks like I need summer/autumn plants to replace them....and for the lavender to catch up.

It will soon be time to buy winter pansies - and if you can find a small variety, they're a good replacement for the summer violas, brightening the lavender pot too.
