Garden lighting - what's best?

Had a party in our new house at the weekend - it unexpectedly continued into the evening and the garden was pitch black! What do we need to get?

I like those LEDs you set into decking, not exactly simple to fit though, I don't think. IMO, those solar lights are poo.

We have a security light on the back (in fact we have 3) but just having one on permanently like a normal light (ie not just switching on when the motion detector picks something up) is fine. Not too bright

our neighbour has got a huge light that is really invasive it lights up half of our garden too. and he has blue spotlights on decking. our garden is tiny too! it's like a helicopter landing pad. sorry no help to you just had to get that rant out hah!

i've got solar lights they are nice but dim

Presumably with solar powered lights, you just stick 'em in and they come on when they feel charged up? Is that right? No cables, presumably. I suppose they're poo because they're dim?

hmm, a bit of controversy re solar lights here then .....

Would like something in the foliage I think. Agree about the lights set into decking NDP, but sounds a bit pricey

Something pretty/atmospheric but cheap??

That's right Fave. They come on little spikes that you set into the ground. They charge up during the day and come on when it goes dark. They are so dim, you need loads of them and often I think they just look a bit cheap and nasty

You'd think someone would come up with a nice designer version, wouldn't you? Thanks for the info, NdP. I might hold out for some nice solar ones - even I'm capable of sticking a spike in the ground. Will report back if I find any lovely ones! Franch, FWIW I find them in principle attractive on green grounds and on grounds of no cable needed

I've strung up fairy lights for parties . They looked good.
