SPIDERS' NEST???

We suddenly seem to have dozens of medium/ large spiders in our garden. I counted at least 20 , each in there own webs. The largest have bodies the size of my thumbnail and have yellowy brown patterned bodies. they are mainly on the ivy.

is this usual for this time of year or could there be a nest??? aaagh!

i've not noticed them in previous years.

TIA

Don't know the answer, I'm afraid.
Only wanted to add that I've seen theese spiders too. I chopped down a large shrub on bank holiday Mionday and put the branches straight in the boot of the car to take to the tip when it reopened on Tuesday.
Did that but on Wednesday got in the car and there were 7 or 8 spiders incl. 4 of those big yellowy ones. All with large webs. Needless to say we despidered the car before we got in (I didn't squash them ).

It's a spidery time of year. Live and let live, although relish the thought that spiders eat flies.

Baby spiders are much smaller (ds1 found a glorious nest full of babies this summer).
The spiders you are talking about won't bother you - they are very much outdoor spiders.

thanks folks. also, we've had a couple of whoppers indoors..and i man huge, with a leg span of 10cm- no joke. didn't know if we were living in a spiders' breeding ground! we won't kill them don't worry, but am a bit nervous of them, for no rational reason.
