Bamboo plant screening

Has anyone used bamboo pants for screening?
Like the idea of them not being bushy like a hedge but providing a not too high screen like conifers would.

We built a raised bed from sleepers and our bamboo screen has grown in it very vigourously without escaping.
Would a raised bed be a possibility?

I would not use buddleia for a screen. It's a very sprawly shrub, and it's not evergreen.

What about hawthorn? I think it's a bit slower-growing than bamboo or buddleia, but it's still pretty, and it's pruckly Wink
