Ants

Our garden is riddled by ants. I put ds on a blanket with some toys and wishing 10 mins they were covered in ants. How is best to get rid of them? DH thinks there is several ant nests in the garden. He has just dug into a large plant pot, to plant a lovely plant but it's riddled by ants. Should we try to get rid of the ants before planting in the pot? They are everywhere, climbing all over my chairs, washing line. I'm still itching all over just thinking about them.

nippon ant killer, you will need to put it on old glazed plates, and cover with something that stops rain, animals or children getting near it, very dangerous,

do it all round the garden, repeat until you see no more ants, they carry it back and it kills them all.

Just don't try to drown them with a hose.. or they will run up your body furious.

Thanks gamerchick, didn't think it was possible to get any itchier!

well it's quite amusing to watch somebody else do it and the jumping around thing they do but i wouldn't advise it after seeing what happens.

Can you see where the nest entrances are.. it looks like little piles of sand in random places? Put some bait next to the entrances.. it may not get rid of the nest but it'll trim it down to more manageable levels, it depends on how big it is and if the queen dies.

And to make it worse, I'm afraid in a few weeks they will probably be developing wings and filling the air as well as the ground! So try and get rid of them before then.

We could see the nests better before DH cut the grass. He has put down some ant stuff we had in the garage. It said you could either add to water or scatter the powder on garden so we'll see what happens.
Is that likely to be soon when they fly? Please don't be in June, we have a couple of BBQs planned!!

Boiling water straight onto a nest, I have found somestuff called Ant Stop Gun works well

WillGardnersNose · 17/05/2014 20:51

yeah sounds brutal but I always remember my DM pouring kettles of boiling water on to nests.

SweetPeaPods · 17/05/2014 20:52

Will that affect the grass?

Flying ant day is usually later; late July-ish depending on where you live and the weather that year. Basic ant powder put anywhere you see them going underground works well. They like nesting underneath pots or slabs which trap heat and make a warm place for nests. There is often an entrance under pots on a patio...

Imo the only good ant is a dead one Grin I seriously hate them!!

I suppose it might kill the grass but would be worth it to hear their tiny screams Wink
