Hi, can anyone suggest a screening plant to grow in a container? it needs to be evergreen, grow to about 5ft high and about 3 -4 ft wide. It would be nice to have some flowers if possible!

Thank you

Does it need to be evergreen? What's it screening?

How quickly do you need it to be 5ft and how big is your container?

That's v big for a container. I'm sure it's possible but there is the problem of keeping a large plant watered adequately if, for example, you are on hols.
I suspect bamboo is the best option if it's for privacy but it doesn't have flowers I don't think.
I have a large fatsia japonica in a pot, not 5 ft but you could stick it on a block or something. But it doesn't like too much cold so I keep it indoors in the winter.

I have a side window that overlooks the street. When people pass, they feel very close to the house. I want to place said plant in a pot - the pot and the plant to total about 5ft. I don't have a container yet so will buy at the same time as the plant.

I want the screen to be there at all times of the year.

Camellias are happy in pots. You could keep it clipped to stop it getting too big.

You could have a potplant on the inside window sill so that you aren't so aware of the passers by. It could be any size.

Camellia's are a good suggestion, evergreen, but might take a while to reach that size.

Laurel might grow more quickly but will get big.

How about a trough planter with attached trellis as an option? You could grow an evergreen climber up and the trellis would also provide instant privacy.

Otherwise a bay tree or small standard tree in a pot?

You could have a photinia Red Robin (evergreen and lovely foliage). We have several in pots to act as a screen between us and the street, and us and neighbours,

We have the biggest in a half-barrel and it is about 5ft tall and 4ft wide.
Make sure you water it regularly (daily when new, and in warm weather).

Portuguese laurel is evergreen and very tough and it does flower, you would need a large container though.
