Peony lovers, this way please...

I have a peony dilemma... It's peony week from Thursday at lidll (not officially - but that's what I'm calling it as they have tree peonies for £5.99 each) and its making me twitchy.

I love peonies, I inherited a lovely big red one in my garden and I'd love to have white and pink ones all along my sunny border.

Last year I bought 6 if these baby plants from lidll. I brought them home and fattened them up in tubs before planting them out in lots of manure and mychorizal fungi.

4 died, 2 have come up again this year. One looks healthy but the other is a bit brown and dull (photos on FB group). There were pests on the under side of the leaf which I've now zapped.

Given this how many plants would it be reasonable for me to buy? Would it be better for me to go to a proper nursery and spend more on older plants? Or are they just as likely to fail so I may as well buy lots of cheaper ones and hope for the best? What did I do wrong with last year's plants? Will anybody else be queuing outside lidll at 7am on Thursday?

I would go to a nursery & get larger plants tbh,it's a bit of a false economy if two thirds of them die.

I think I've lost my Peony, was a large plant, no sign of it yet. I assume its rotted with all the wet weather we've had.

Smirking at you queuing outside Aldi!
