Bit confused about the whole cutting thing... Can you grow plants from a bunch of flowers? People seem to grow whole rose bushes from a stalk with a leaf!

Is it specific? Am I totally missing it?!
Stupid q probably

its possible - i have carnations on my plot to prove it. But I think its a lot harder than usual because cuttings should be planted as soon as possible once they are removed from the main plant.

So my inspired act to plant the bouquet if roses given to me after a week if them bring in a vase was probably a waste of time Grin

Your roses wouldn't come true if they were planted as cuttings from cut flowers. All roses are grown on rootstocks to make their eventual size manageable (as are many fruit trees). You may end up with a very large bush with small flowers, if your cuttings were to be successful.

Also, for cuttings to work, the sample cutting needs to contain at least two nodes or junctions where the growth hormones are concentrated. The stems of roses don't have any nodes normally, they are just smooth and straight.
