Best seeds for planting in a transparent pot or pre schoolers

I would like to show my nearly 2 and 4 yr olds clearly what is happening above and below the surface when a seed germinates and and grows but not quite sure which seeds would be best. Any suggestions would be gratefully received

I remember being shown this in nursery myself and remember finding it both fascinating and exciting but can't for the life of me remember the particular seed, all I can remember is that it was quite large possibly a kidney shape and there was cotton wool rather than soil put in the container and it showed the process beautifully. Hope I'm making some sense

Runner bean in an old cd case.

I use sweetcorn I grows quickly and has a lot of thick white roots that are easy to see.

Broad bean is the classic one used for such purposes.

As others have said, you want a bean rather than a seed. They are much bigger and therefore easier to see. They root down and sprout up in a very satisfying manner.

You can do in in a plastic cup with a coffee filter paper to hold the sead against the side of the cup.

If you want something that will grow into something beautiful, try a sunflower.

Cress is also good.

I think it might have been a runner bean from what you say but will try some of each of your suggestions, thanks a lot all.

I imagine it would be better to put them into soil if we wanted to plant them outside afterwards?
