Does anyone use biodegradable bags for their domestic compost?

We have been given a compost bin and bags to put kitchen rubbish in the council brown bin. But we have our own compost so I am just emptying the compost bin straight into it from the kitchen - no bags. This is what we did when we were little so I know it works.

However DP wants to use the brown biodegradable bags to line the kitchen compost bin. It would be cleaner and easier to empty. I oppose this because I would rather have a slightly mucky compost bin under the sink than find myself with a huge pile of unusable stinking non-compost in the garden, not properly composted because the bags take 50 years to decompose, and then not know how to do anything with it. Other than manually remove the bags and leave it for another year [boak]

SO - which of us is right? Can we use the brown bags in the garden or are they for council only?

I tried this many, many years ago (not the council ones, but supposedly compostable ones)

I still occasionally find bits of them lying around in the garden.

Apparently they need a very high temperature to compost at all.

We will plod on with the smelly bucket!
