I have, and in just three days I've already had the following germinate:

Early peas
Shallots
Bidens
Physostegia

No sign of the sweet peas yet but I'm possibly being a bit impatient Wink

I got a heated windowsill propagator last Christmas, and it's the best thing ever. Sowed tomatoes, basil and some flowers and they were all up within 3 days-All far too early and now getting leggy on my windowl-ledge. Might try again in couple of weeks!

We went a bit mad today sowing in seed trays and modular trays in the greenhouse Blush

Just a bit worried there won't be enough room for everything when we're ready to pot on and plant out!

Cobra will do really well in the polytunnel - a friend used to grow them in his and they cropped brilliantly.

I'm planning to do a load more sowing this weekend. Time is catching up with me and I don't have space to do loads at once. It's supposed to be -1 this Friday eve so be careful if you have plants outside.

I'm going to try again with coriander on the windowsill as mine have gone very leggy. The basil looks good, not too leggy at all. Oh for a greenhouse!

That's good news *Kernowgal,thank you.Smile

I have set some salad, chard and nasturtiums in those sectioned trays,to sell on as seedlings once the weather warms up properly and people start to think about getting into the garden.

My sweetpeas, tomatoes, peas, watercress and some other bits have come up,no sign of the broad beans yet,but I let them get a bit dry.

I'm going to try growing watermelons again this year,I've not had any success the past 2 years.

My poor sweet peas stayed on the heat too long, they're all etiolated!

I'm hoping to sow a lot of it direct but I daren't at the moment for fear of more wet weather.

Will look out for COBRA beans then, as we haven't gone for any yet. Thanks Mirage

No time for gardening or seed sowing today sadly.I did buy some assorted lily bulbs,6 for £3 and a rhubarb plant,£2 from Wilko's.I'm stumped a bit planting out this year, because I plan to terrace our steeply sloping garden, but am waiting for the chap to come and replace the fence before I start.I usually plant my veg in 4 little raised beds, but they will be taken out when I start terracing.

However,my dad has abandoned an old tractor tyre outside my poly, and I'd planned to roll it inside and use it for planting. It is too heavy for me to shift, but it is only 6ft away from my huge manure heap [thank you, ponies].So I'm going to fill the tyre with muck and plant my rhubarb in there.Smile

Yes, sown some peas in pots. Happy to report that I "am with pea"

Rhubarbgarden · 01/03/2014 21:36

You are going to have some amazing rhubarb, Mirage!

Went up to the allotment today and sowed all sorts of things including sugar snaps, mange tout and garden peas (I luffs peas). Sowed a patch of wildflowers along with flowers for cutting (cornflowers, orlaya grandiflora, something else I can't recall).

Plus loads of CCA salads.

Now expecting the mice to dig up every last pea.

Tomorrow I'm going to start off sunflowers and some half-hardies.

Last week I started a few items, a pinch of 3-4 varieties to a tray, in the airing cupboard, and most are now through and on windowsill. I'll start a few more next week, (as I've stopped sowing directly, even for h/hardys, feeling they only feed the slugs and birds) and first sowings can be pricked out and moved to slightly cooler windowsill.

We did use a mini-greenhouse affair outdoors a few years ago, having sheltered spot near the house, but only the top trays really got enough light, and others kept blowing away.

Traditionally, outdoor planting day was Good Friday, I believe, not only easy to remember but a public holiday when people had time to work on their own soil.

I've been sowing for about ten days, first time sower/gardener her, and I'm far too enthusiastic and am just doing what the seed packets tell meWink

Radishes- loads coming up, some showing 'real' leaves now, but I haven't really put enough thought into this as I don't know if/when to pot on.

Rocket

  • coming through, very excited.

Early peas- coming through on a windowsill, they'll be potted on under the cold frame and then in to a bed in April.

Broccoli- no signs yet- I think I may have been overly hopeful - the packet said sow outside from Feb so these and some peas are in seed trays in the cold frame- but am considering bringing them in.

Marigolds, of which we have loads coming through! I'm now googling whether I need to pull some out and re plant as they are crowded.

Aubergines- ridiculously over reaching my abilities, but they are pretty ones I didn't know existed until I saw the seed packet and couldn't help myself. Not surprisingly, there are no signs of.these yet.

I have a seed packet of butterfly flower mix which says I can sow outdoors from March, what does everyone think? It's too cold now right? I'm completely new to thisGrin
