Hello! Does anyone grow crops in pots here?

I've just got myself the Crops in Pots book from RHS and am eager to get going; I don't think this time of year is right though, is it?

I also have 6 or so onion shoots in a glass of water on my window sill - I found 2 onions in my fridge that'd sprouted, so I've separated the plants and am ready to put them in some dirt!

Any tips for getting them to be big, fat onions?

Have just been thinking of doing this myself so am watching with interest.

I have chilli peppers, herbs, mangetout and rocket and salad

I grow lettuce and courgette in those fabric bags, they have done well and have red pepper and tomatoes in pots in small greenhouse. Also got a strawberry planter but it dries out quickly.

I've given up on my strawberry planters because they do dry out so quickly.

I was fairly successful with Charlotte potatoes in a fabric bag. There are some spuds - can't remember which - which you can apparently grow for Christmas in them.

I have courgettes doing well in a large tub and have previously had success with peas.

Tomatoes are great - you can get cherry ones which do ok in pots. I think growbags are too shallow.

Herbs etc as well.

Strawberries. You can get new plant off the runners so you don't have to restock too often.

Plants in pots do need frequent watering in hot weather and also need feeding or they'll struggle.
