Slugs

My garden, it would seem, is a slugs paradise. My neighbours don't have this problem, just us. Any plants, climbers that I dare to plant, are, within days, eaten to within an inch of their lives
We have decking on one side of the garden, could they be coming from there? I've tried slug pellets, special sprays, copper foil. The only thing I haven't tried is beer- apparently they'll come from far and wide for a pint . I just can't face getting rid of them the next day. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it.

a salt line? though i hate doing that as they end up all dried up and dead

i have to do that to keep them off the rabbits though, as unchecked they get everwhere even in the rabbit's food bowls, squelchy things

where do they go when it's not we?

Would you put the salt around the edges of the decking? I'll get my DH to pick them up...I'd never eat again if I had to

yes imagine it as an electric fence for slugs. it works!

Ok thanks. I'll give the salt a go tomorrow. They'll probably start absailing down from the trees instead!
Haven't tried eggshells yet either. Worth a go though.

Beer traps is the only thing I've tried that really works. Coffee, eggshells, grit, copper tape- all useless. Salt works but I've got too many plants that need protecting.

Please don't use pellets - birds, hedgehogs and frogs eat the poisoned slugs and end up poisoned too.

Organic slug pellets are supposed to be OK for hedgehogs etc.

I've actually found that working out where they hide during the day then chopping each slug I find in two is the most successful option. I have a strong stomach, though!

Bit late - you can get a nematode slug killer, water it on and let the parasites do the job for you.
Haven't tried it myself tho.

I've just seen on Pinterest (so it's probably bollocks) that cornmeal is irresistible to slugs even though it kills them. Has anyone tried it?

No not heard that one.

Removing them at dusk or when it rains helps. I stamp on them. Keeping the garden tidy and leaves off the ground means they do not have so many places to hide.
