My evergreen is going brown

I have no idea what I've done to it.

I repotted them into bigger plant pots & put them outside front door. It's only gets the early morning sun. I've tried watering more, watering less...feeding them.

I have no idea what I'm doing really. I choose them as I thought they would be unkillable! What am I doing wrong?!

What are they?

BerylStreep · 06/08/2013 22:51

What is it?

BerylStreep · 06/08/2013 22:52

If it is box it could be box blight.

NothingsLeft · 06/08/2013 22:54

I don't know what the are Blush I'm crap with plants, sorry. They are a bluey green colour if that helps. What's box blight?

Is whatever it is in too much sun? Plants can get sun burn I've had to move a lot around this year into shadier parts of the garden.

Can you post photos?

Box blight is a fungal infection that affects box plants and turns them a dead, golden yellow colour.

Your plants don't sound like box though, if they are blue grey, are they a conifer of some sort? I have never managed to grow conifers in pots successfully.

Sorry for the delay...has been a hectic week. I've posted a photo which hopefully you will be able to see. Any ideas in what to do with it would be welcome!

I had a look at the picture - it looks to me that the plant has dried out at some point, hence the browning.

The thing about confers is that they don't rejuvenate themselves, so that part will always be brown. You could try a bit of judicious pruning to cut the brown patch out, but it's risky.

The alternative is to get new plants. Homebase have some quite good value bay trees at the moment, although they don't like extremely cold weather , so might be worth moving them when there is snow.

Thanks for replying.

They are new plants! Didnt take long for me to ruin them...how often should they be watered roughly?

I might do some research on pruning and hope for the best. I really love them.
