Pruning Lavender 'Hidecote'

I've just had some Lavender Hidecote planted & it seem to have finished flowering with the odd new flower stalks growing.

Am I right in thinking that Lavender don't like a lot of water - I've just ead it somewhere ? We have been watering as they are newly planted but I'm not sure if we've contributed to the lack of new flowers ?

If I left it til the Autumn to prune, I'd be left with all dead flower heads by August !

Any help & advice welcome

It will need watering while it gets established. Cut back lightly when it has finished flowering to the base of the stalks. Don't cut into the wood. Aim for a ball shaped-bush. You might be lucky and get a second flowering in autumn but not as spectacular as the summer flowering.

Have you got dried flowers still on the ends of the stalks? If so, harvest these now and use to scent drawers, cupboards etc.

I don't think you need to rush to cut the flower stalks off.
We had our garden redone in March and loads of lavender planted. I've always managed to kill lavender in the past so asked designer for specific advice.
Was told to water twice a week in dry spells for 1 month after planting then no more watering. We've stuck to that, with lots of peering nervously for any sign of wilting in the heat. South facing so sun all day.
Its looking lovely, loads of flowers and really strong scent.
Re pruning, been advised to cut flower stalks + one third of the rest of the plant in mid august. OK to cut into the wood then as will have time to grow before first frosts.
Second pruning, a light trim in early spring.
