I have one, which dd bought me (church bazaar). It is in a stone pot about 10 inches high and about that in diameter. I had no idea it would get so big, when I first got it!

It clearly needs to go in a bed and I have a large one ready. I have read about it, seen diagrams for staking etc.

Problem is I have no idea how to get it out of the pot without it breaking - either the pot or the plant!

Any ideas?

It has been suggested that I put it in the hole I've dug, and then break the pot. I'll need a sledge hammer for that! (I don't have one, btw.)

Perhaps if I encase the plant (4 ft tall) in something? Suggestions?

Can't you tip the pot over - and it will just fall out

Yes I can, but don't you think the plant will break?

No - especially if you haven't watered it for a few days. I've done it with a few this week and they're all OK.

Brilliant. Thank you, I'll do that, and worry less!

Don't worry about bits of it breaking off, Jux. It'll help it to get bushier - so long as it doesn't snap off at the base!

Also, it probably won't be just one plant - it could be a dozen. You'll need to gently separate the tangled roots. Again, don't worry about breaking some off, they'll survive.

Spread them out in their new home, and give them lots of water. This is best done either early morning or late evening, rather than during the heat of the day.

Thank you. It started it's drought today.

It has been moved!! Dh helped me this afternoon, and it didn't break. Tose tendrils are very strong aren't they?

I've untied it from the stakes as it was so tangled up, and the shoots on the inside were going yellow. I haven't tied it up again - there's wires going along the wall - as I thought it might like a little time to get some air. I'll tie it up tomorrow though.

I have read of layering. Should I do that?
