He said he was going to take the tops off and we agreed (hedge between out houses at the front, when we got home he'd taken over half off the top and most of the sides leaving stubbs and branches, FUCK ALL greenery left. It looks totally dreadfull, like it's been burnt in a fire. It has totally taken away the privacy we had and now we look at the tree in their garden which is dead because they killed that last year.

Will someone please tell me how long it will take to for it to grown leaves again? What can I do to encourage it to grow? Water/feed etc. What could I plant next to it to block it out?

It is now the only house in the road without a nice leafy green hedge.

How irritating.

What sort of hedge is it?

Fwiw, I suspect it'll grow back fairly quickly. I hope so anyway.

It is, a box hedge, or was!

He just seems to have gone mental with a chainsaw. Not even it a slighly decent way, hacked the poor thing.

Thanks MaryMotherofCheeses.

My NDN lopped a foot off the top of his hedge last September.

It isn't noticable at all now. It seemed to look quite bare for a while, but that was over winter.

I would have thought it would grow more quickly in summer, so you'll probably be ok by the end of the summer holidays.

Box can be hard pruned (ie to 30cm high if needed), so it will recover. Just give it some fertiliser and keep it watered and it should perk back up.

he might of dragged the tops whilst cutting which rips/burns them..if you can cut any burnt looking bits off and it should grow back quickly, maybe water it in the hot weather to encourage it
