Fake grass is it any good?

Fed up with killing grass. We have spent a fortune over the years with re-turfing and trying to grow grass. Finally had enough and I'm just thinking of getting the artificial grass.

Could anyone recommend a company in the South East?

We have a small garden. 11ftt wide by 18ft long. I'm hoping that it won't be too expensive at that size.

We've just had ours done and used Easy Lawns based in Braintree. Our lawn was full of weeds and now looks amazing.

It's simply fab. We've had ours for 3 years after a similar story of repeated re-turfing and it works really well on a smaller space. DH (handy type of chap) laid it DIY.

I really want this!! I've seen it in children's centres and looks amazing, cant afford it yet myself but really think it seems a good idea

Dh is quite handy so maybe he could do it himself. Is it expensive?

We've just had it laid and its amazing, loved by the DC and DH & I, and not dug up and stained by the dog, huzzah!

2 DC, 3 Ddogs and a small north facing garden later we gave up on the real stuff and 3 years later we are still loving the fake stuff.

It's not cheap but you'll save heaps if DH puts it down. My DH cleared what was left of the grass and hired one of those stompy machines to flatten it, then a layer of stomped sand, weed surpressing membrane, then the fake grass.

If you google there's a website that shows the process.

They have this where I work in the car park, I think because it's hard wearing and it looks really smart.

I bet it's not cheap though

Just out of interest, What happens with the animals?

It's bloody amazing. Ours is by Lazy Lawn and it has been life changing. Kids can play out in all weathers and no mud. Our lawn is tiny though and we only needed the width of one roll so no bits to join so DH fitted it himself after the landscapers got the ground ready. Think it was weed proof membrane then one sort of sand underneath, roll out lawn, push into shape and then dump a load of different sand over the top to weigh it down. No maintenance whatsoever. No fading. Just brilliant. Easy to hose chicken poo off when they escape their run too!

Damn If you mean what happens to the wee and poo - it's perforated so the wee soaks through and the poo is easy to pick up. It can be hosed down and swept with a stiff brush if necessary.

Someone told me that my dogs would get carpet burns on their paws but they hare about like loons and they've been fine! They also can't dig it up, it's nailed down at the edges so no more ankle breaking traps.

We have artificial grass in our garden, laid on patio slabs. It looks realistic, easy to care for and it is a soft landing for our toddler if he falls over! :) We laid it ourselves.
