Can someone answer a pea question for a novice gardener please?

This is the first year I've tried growing peas. They grew really well and flowered but now that the flowers are going the pods on them are tiny and black. I'm assuming I'm not going to get any peas and I'm wondering if any kind person can tell me what went wrong?

Are you sure they're green peas and not black?

My plants have grown ok but not had peas yet but I did plant the peas late.

There are just really small black looking pods so far and they are kind of shrivelled looking. I'm going to leave them alone for now and hope for the best. They look pretty anyway.

Good luck hope they turn out ok? I can't remember what mine looked like last year? I only got my allotment last Feb so this is my second year.

Thanks, Juniper, that site looks interesting. I've been growing a few random veg the last few years with varying results. This year I've expanded the patch and I'm trying to be more methodical with the weeding and thinning out and generally staying on top of things.

It's a good hobby to have. I love it when seeds are successful, it's so cheap

When I was watering this evening I noticed that a few of the plants have proper green pods coming far down on the plants. I'm delighted now, probably more than a grown woman should be about vegetables. Carrots are really taking off too.
