Can I move a 3 year old Globe Artichoke plant without killing it?

I planted it 3 summers ago and I love it. I'm moving in a few months and I was thinking about uprooting it and putting it in a big pot.

It's not in the easiest space either, it's up against a stone wall and there's a paving slab about a foot in front of it.

Does anyone have any advice on how to move it without killing it?

Water it well, try not to break off any of the root and use the biggest pot you can find, with good (ie John Innes) compost. Now probably isn't the best time but, then again, if you leave it any longer the plant will be bigger and closer to cropping.

Thanks, I'll give it a go tomorrow.

I think I've killed it.

Started this morning, it was going really well at first. I was about a foot down and had got the main roots free, then it fell over and one of the main roots snapped. I have put it together and planted it in the pot with compost. But it's beginning to droop already.

Poor plant.

Oh dear. Give it a good drink and hope for the best - if the rest of the roots are still sound it may pull through.
