Complete novice with no idea how to do these things..

.I have a patch of mud type thingy seperate from the grass in the garden which I am going to pull all thr weeds out of and turn into just soil,

I would then like to turn it into a veg and fruit patch

So what do I need to get started? Do I need treatments? Different soil? Tools? What veg and fruit shall I start with?

:-):-)

I would start by just digging it over, then planting something easy like lettuce or radish.

Start with digging. Mark out your plot if you need to then dig it over to break up the soil. Dig or pull out weeds, remove roots, stones etc. you don't say how big the plot is, but you might then want to borrow or hire a rotavator to really break down the soil once you've dug it over.

Depends what the soil is like re what you might want to add. If it looks ok, not to clay or wet, then I would just dig some fertiliser in. Then you're off!

Re what to grow, given its a bit late in the year I would think maybe some cabbage plants, salad leaves, some autumn raspberry canes?

We have raised beds for our veg patch - good for growing root veg and you can add soil to them.
