We have a medium sized garden, and it will mainly be used by me for doing the edges and bits around the garden toys etc. However we do have a rough patch of weeds that goes OTT at times, so I don't want anything too light weight.

I'd prefer it to be electric or battery. Not too fussed as long as it's reliable.

BIL has a heavy duty petrol one that we can borrow if we need to do the whole lawn (normally if we've been away and it's not been done for a while)

Budget around £50 but could go higher for a reliable one.

Any ideas? I've been looking at reviews on Amazon and Argos and they are all very mixed...

Stihl or Husqvarna.

I've got the Stihl FSA 65. I love it. It's a cordless electric one so I can work where I like without a cable restricting me and it stays fully powerful until the charge runs out completely, unlike some which gradually get less powerful as the battery runs down. It happily chops up even big tough brambles and is very lightweight, so I can keep going with it for ages (I'm quite petite and not the strongest person in the world).

Unfortunately it is not even close to your budget, so this isn't actually very helpful, sorry, unless you decide it's worth forking out considerably more.
