Aquilegia/columbine - weed or wanted?

Last night I ordered some Aquilegia/columbine plugs, thinking they are the kind of things which will grow well and look good in my garden. However, today I realised I already have a fair few muddy mauve coloured ones growing wild and have been pulling them out as weeds Blush

So, should I be cherishing the wild ones, or are the commercially grown grannies bonnets a completely different kind?

I have lots of the wild ones in my garden and just dig a few up every year to make room for other plants to come through.
My mum has both kinds. They will hybridise in the end, the wild ones are pretty dominant.

Yes they self seed all over but they are easy to pull out when unwanted. i tend to get rid of the pink ones and leave white or blue. I have one border which has lots of blue aquilegia and they look lovely along with blue iris and a white exochorda at the moment.

You get some stunning variations ime - this Spring I've got a gorgeous purple one and an equally lovely burgundy one.

Does anyone know if they mind being moved?

Love aquilegia. Esp purple. My mum has both kinds: wild and hybrid. They are OK being moved in spring or Autumn ime.

Recently managed to grow some from seed, amazing colours on the packet while local shop has muddy-pink ones at £2.99. Previously, have only had white ones.

We have loads that have self seeded over the years. The only time I removed an was when we first moved in and they were literally everywhere and my friend wanted some. So I dug them up and they are doing well in her garden.
