Will packet seeds thrive direct onto beds?

Novice here! I had a packet of mixed border seeds. It said plant 8cm apart etc and thin out seedlings later. There were LOADS of seeds and most of them were far too small for me to handle. I have scattered them, covered them lightly with compost and watered. It is very mild here today and it said sow outside march to may.

What are the chances that they will actually develop into plants?

I sowed wild flower seeds directly into the bed last year but i covered them with a sheet of plastic to stop the birds getting the seed and give a mini green house effect. I had a lovely summer display and am going to do the same again this year.

Keep them watered, and there's no reason why not.

Personally given how cold its been (caveat - only if its been the same where you are) I'd have probably waited a bit until the soil warmed up. Having said that with luck they should be ok & just sit there until things improve.

I agree, the soil is probably still a bit cold for germination but you never know.
