A Small Completely South Facing Garden...

Would you give me the benefit of your wisdom? Fairly inexperienced gardener, but willing to have a go!

I am looking for plants (and possibly a small slow growing tree) which would do well in a completely south facing back garden?

Also are there plants which I could put in the completely north facing front garden, (possibly in pots)?

:)

I think that your garden will probably get a lot of sun, except maybe at the bit furthest from the house which will be against the northern boundary (wall/fence/whatever) so any plants that like lots of sun should be OK - things like lavendar etc.

As for small trees - I like eucalyptus but the commonest one (e. gunni) grows a bit fast and big. There is another one with larger leaves that is a bit more in proportion.

My house is oriented in exactly the same way as yours and I love having so much sun on the patio.

I've got a large south-facing garden and love different types of shrubs. This is what I've got. Some of these might not be what you're looking for but do well in my one.

Buddleia - butterflies love this one
Cornus - fabulous red branches in winter
Choisya - vivid lime green shrub/bush
Cotinus (Royal purple) - again lovely dark red leaves.
Hyppericum - st john wart. Lovely yellow flowers
Leycesteria- birds love the berries
Lavender
Photinia
Pittasporum
Pieris
Honeysuckle - climber - incredible scent
Fushia
weigela
yucca
purpurea sambucus
Gaura - lovely shrub with beautiful pink flowers
Just to name a few....

Good luck
