lawn edging for flower bed / path?

Now, you have to use your imagination a bit but run with me here:

Our house has a front garden like \link{http://admin.rightmove.co.uk/10k/9004/9004_368857_IMG_00_t.jpg?t=8346446133067\this} (not our house btw), with paths running on all sides, but rather than being laid to lawn like all the neighbours' it's actually one big shrubbery / flower bed.
Because it was designed to be lawned, there's no border or anything between the bed and the paths, and the bed has become quite 'built up' (I guess because of big shrubs with big rootballs, repeated application of compost, bark chips etc).
We've just done the spring tidy up, weeded, sown some annuals etc, and the bed is developing quite a slope down to the level of the paths.

Should we try and remove some soil to flatten the bed, or could we use lawn edging (or similar) to make a little retaining wall and stop it encroaching onto the path?

Any ideas?

after reading the mention of your thread in the chat section( banal questions) - just had to post. I hate threads with no posts almost as much as killing them.
could build a retaining wall - you can buy a kit to build a dry stone wall effect but in modular form.
Hope I'm not the last post!

Riased bed might be nice. Brick or sleepers maybe ? Log roll is cheap but doesn't always look fantastic... kind of depends on the house and those around you.
