What to do with ds's bean plants?

Ds brought home two bean plants (maybe runner beans, not sure) from school last week. I have since transplanted them from the yoghurt pot to a bigger pot and they have grown to about four times the original size in a week! They are nearly up to the top of the kitchen window now...

It is too early to plant them outside (we had frost last night) so what do i do with them in the meantime? Should I pinch off the top to stop them growing taller?

Why do schools do this? It's too early for beans so unless you have somewhere you can keep them indoors a bit longer (garage, conservatory?) then you might be a bit stuck.

I've personally never pinched the tops off beans because they are supposed to get leggy like that - some get to 6ft or more eventually.

You may find yourself having to plant replacement beans in a few weeks time - I normally stick them outside in late April/early May

Don't have a garage or conservatory! Might try the front porch....

Remember to stick a stake in too, they need a lot of support.

You might be able to keep it on the window ledge and just train it if it gets out of hand before the weather improves.

Outside I train them over a trellis - just gently start to bend them and fasten loosely to the stakes - as I am a short arse and don't want to be reaching to 6ft to pick the things.
