First, I should say I'm not in the UK. I live on the West Coast of Canada, near Vancouver. So our climate is pretty similar to parts of the UK .

Girlfriend's wedding in late October. I'm in charge of flowers holy crap because I love gardening. :o

She wants white and purple flowers, with silver accents like ribbons.

Help - I need ideas!!

Roses? I know that there are some that are purple...or you could go with white flowers and touch them with purple berries or foliage.

Holy moley, JM - you're asking a bit much, aren't you? Grin

No idea whether or not they're in season but how about Lisianthus? I particularly like the white with purple fringe.

Thumbwitch · 07/09/2012 15:42

Or osteospermum - some fabulous purple and white varieties there (but not as flashy as lisianthus, IMO)

OR you could just go for dahlias - those at least I know have a later flowering season

Thumbwitch · 07/09/2012 15:44

Or cineraria - some of which have silver leaves

Aquelven · 07/09/2012 18:24

Dahlias? Chrysanthemums?

Jacksmania · 07/09/2012 19:57

Why am I asking a bit much, Thumb? Confused[dim]

Dahlias... good thought!!

oh it was a bit tongue-in-cheek, JM - for me mostly, I can't work out what's in season when in Canada! Grin And I can't remember when half the things are in season in the UK Blush and probably don't even know when they are here Blush x 2

Oh ok :o
Our climate is a lot like the UK. Lots of wet. Not much snow except on the coast mountains (but tons in the interior) Gorgeous and sunny and dry right now though.

Anyway, we decided on dahlias :)

Oh good! Glad it's sorted. Dahlias are fab.

Saw this too late, but answered on the other thread.

I was advised against lisianthus, because they droop almost the moment you take them out of water.

CuttedUpPear · 08/09/2012 21:15

Was going to suggest Verbena bonariensis as they are still purple in Oct and will keep their shape long after cutting, not sure if they would go well with dahlias though.
