How to rid the fence of algae...

Planning on repainting the fence which is north facing & covered in algae. I don't plan on doing it again so want to do a decent job first time round.

Does anyone have any ideas on the best way of removing it? A pressure washer isn't an option unfortunately. Quite hoping for something cheap & kind to the environment.

i did mine early this year. It was a horrible back breaking job using a wire brush and old wall paper scraper.

That's not what I was hoping to hear! It's a community project so not keen on too much back breaking Smile

May have to just bit the bullet & get the wire brush out then...

Unfortunately, cheap and kind to the environment is likely to translate as wire brush and elbow grease! I wonder whether spraying it first with diluted wash

... ing up liquid would help loosen it and make the job easier?

Thanks...I will give it a go. I was hoping there may have been a vinegar/soda powder/lemon juice number that works wonders but elbow grease will have to do Smile

I would give the washing up liquid a miss as just washing my wire brush between panels gave off a horrid slimey mess from the bristles. In the end i gave up washing the brush and just threw it away at the end of the job.
