Can I grow tomatoes in my conservatory?

Or will they burn? Is the glass different to greenhouse glass? Its southfacing so gets sun all day and can get really hot. Are there other plants that would be suitable? Lots of questions but suddenly feeling inspired!

I usually start them off in my conservatory, but then put them in pots in the garden. As our conservatory is part of the house I wouldn't be able to leave the doors open on a hot day if we were out and the plants will burn and wilt.

I'm trying tomatoes, cucumbers & chillies in my conservatory this year gremlin. My tomatoes always get blight so I'm hoping by growing them indoors I'll get a crop this year; my cucumbers are fairly successful on the patio but I'd like them to be better; and chillies don't fare that well outside. (I obviously don't have a greenhouse so I'm using the conservatory as a substitute.)

I will be leaving the windows open though on hot days which I should be able to do without having too many security issues as I can open the tops only. As bunbaker says, if you have to leave the door open that may cause a problem.

Didnt work very well in my conservatory.

But then my MIL did come to stay and cut ALL the foliage off so "it can concentrate on the fruit". The plant never recovered.
