Wisteria, any tips?

Just put a 2' specimen in (Blue Dragon?). I know they're slow growing and that I shouldn't expect much action for a few years, but does anyone have any experience? It's against a wooden fence and will have a trellis tomorrow (it's currently still attached to the canes it came on).

The soil is a bit heavy so I dug a reasonable hole and put some compost and a bit of blood and bone in it. It'll get a reasonable amount of sun though it is tucked back a bit, but it's in the hottest part of the garden (Hants).

I only know a Black Dragon which is a typical wisteria sizewise (about 10m tall and about 5m wide). This is typically grown against the wall of a building and grown along thick wores or trained to grow over a pergola. I hope your blue dragon is a more dwarf variety because otherwise a trellis and wooden fence may collapse under its weight once the plant matures.

I planted Black Dragon for a client two years ago. It was a huge specimen, which is what they wanted, but it still hasn't flowered. It's up to 15 foot now. I reckon it will be a few years (and a hot summer) yet.

cutted that would have cost them! My 20" high plant was £22!

Actually I think that the one I bought for my clients cost about the same - wholesale price. Not more than £35 anyway.
Good luck with yours and remember to keep pruning it, it is less likely to flower if you let it run riot.
Spur prune it like an apple tree and build up a framework. Your trellis will need to be pretty sturdy to take the weight of a fully grown wisteria, they are basically a medium sized tree when mature.

Thanks for the advice!
