Help! My DH just strimmed my beautiful quince

We recently planted (early Feb) a bare-root Quince tree. It has taken beautifully & I love it.

Unfortunately Dh bought a petrol Strimmer... whilst using it he's accidently strimmed the bottom of the Quince cutting into the bark. We've taped it up, but is there anything we can do to save it?

If he strimmed and cut the bark all the way round then it is not so good but if only half was cut then you might find that it fruits more prolifically this year.

Paint the wound with tree tar or soil from it's own roots and place a broken large pot/chimney pot or something around the base to stop any further strimmer damage.

Envy @ comeintothegardenmaud's nelly moser.

weevilswobble · 15/04/2012 22:07

All time fave clematis.

LaGrenouille · 15/04/2012 22:09

Fantastic! I may have to name change, incorporating 'quince' somehow.

SoupDragon · 15/04/2012 22:15

Room on the smutty bench for one more?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 15/04/2012 22:22

Err, WeevilsWobble, Nelly Moser gets about a bit. She's often available very cheap in Lidl and elsewhere.

weevilswobble · 16/04/2012 20:43

She might indeed be a common little strumpet, but twice perished in my garden.Angry
Moving house soon, so keeping away from garden centres!

You want to chop off his periwinkle and see how he feels
