How do I get rid of goldfish from ornamental pond?

I really want to make my [inherited] pond more wildlife friendly - it's got quite a few big goldfish in it, and although they co-exist with about 8 frogs, I would like there to be more frogs. Unfortunately every year the fish eat the frogspawn that the frogs produce. Potentially I could have loads more frogs but the fish are putting paid to that.

Is it normal to put an ad in the local paper saying Free Goldfish or something? How would you go about re-housing them?

you could just take some of the frogspawn out and let it hatch elsewhere?

or build a pond extension for the frogs? Grin

i don't think you'll find it that easy to rehome big pond-dwelling goldfish, but it's worth a try in the paper/facebook/freecycle

Oh good idea - could I buy a barrel type thing and fill it with pond water, put the frog spawn in that and move them back to the pond when they're young frogs?

I like the idea of a pond extension - will it mean the frogs will go up a council tax band though? Grin

Larger goldfish are really quite expensive to buy so I think you might find someone who would like them. Do you have any fish selling shops locally that might let you put up a notice perhaps? Otherwise you need to create a part of your pond that is too shallow for your fish or is otherwise separated so that they can't get into it and munch up the frogspawn/tadpoles. If the fish are relatively large then perhaps a row of pots of marginals might do it?
