I have a yard so limited as to what i can grow in pots etc. usually i grow peas, tomatoes, strawberries and potatoes. i have tried miniture peppers, cucumbers and onions without very much success. i also grow mint in a smaller pot. i have a window box and was thinking this year i would put some herbs in it but not sure what herbs will go together. i am avoiding mint in the window box as it spreads very quickly and i dont want it over running other herbs.

what herbs is best together - looking at planting 3 different herbs

You can plant mint if you want it, just leave it in the pot to contain roots. Look at chives, French tarragon, coriander, basil, thyme and oregano as other choices.

If you want something that will last the winter you'll need to look at hardier herbs - mint, chives, garlic chives, thyme (lots of different varieties of this). They probably won't all make it through a harsh winter but should generally be ok.

Things like basil and tarragon are tender and it's too early yet for them to go out, though fine for the kitchen windowsill.

Plant what you are likely to use in cooking. For me that means parsley, coriander and thyme but it all depends on what you like cooking.
