Magnolia, roots and foundations.

We have a lovely magnolia in a pot (Magnolia Star Wars) currently about 9' high. We'd really like to plant it in our small front garden. I was just wondering whether magnolia roots would be likely to damage the foundations of our house or the garden wall. The tree would only be about 5' away from the house and 5' away from the wall. Is this too close? One other thing we thought about doing was burying the pot but we wouldn't fancy having to dig it up periodically to repot it. We'd prefer to plant in permanently. Thanks.

Magnolias don't like being moved around. Their roots are fleshy, but do look at the anticipated spread of the tree, as the crown of the plant, its spread, will equal the roots.
