Hi, whats the best way to toughen up and repair my back lawn which now has some unsightly muddy patches and skid marks where the dogs have been chasing each other and their toys?

Astro turf Grin

Sorry , similar position have two boys and a dog - seems to perk up in the spring - but we have decided until the boys leave home ( at least another 10 yrs) and the dog is too old ( she is 20months ) we just don't bother and let it do its own thing - looks nice in the summer when cut (as long as you don't look too close).

Lurking. Mine is shady too, so mostly moss, which the dog kicks up after his morning visits.

My plan is to scarify like a loon come late Spring and then use shade-happy seed. Rinse and repeat.

But if anyone has a better plan, I'm in.

why do dogs kick the lawn up after their morning 'constitutional ' ?

Cos they are mental Grin. I don't know, something to do with scent?
I wish they wouldn't . I rely on a good lawn to make the untidy and overblown 'cottage' nature of my beds look good, rather than just like a hayfield. Big clawmarks don't help.

Then there's the hole digging !

Update - have been to poundland where they currently have loads of gardening stuff and got 10 packs of tough lawn patch seeds to fill the gaps.

Have decided to buy 10 patio flags from B&Q for £3.48 each to add onto the two 'path' areas where you walk from the patio onto the lawn where the damage is worse.

Walked round in my wellies yesterday stamping down the divots and scrunched up bits.

Been back to Poundland today !!!

Loads of packs bulbs...lupins, dahlias, lilies, gypso-thingy etc, stocked up on those.

AND - I bought one the other week, its so good I've bought another - a handheld saw that folds over like a swiss army knife but is abount the length of your hand - its really sharp and cuts through laurel branches up to approx 3inches diam, like a hot knife through butter.

I'm going for Poundland garden of the year !!!!
