and I have no idea what to do. I planted them beginning of october just before a very hot spell, more then 20degrees, and the bulbs(tulips and daffodils) have started to sprout. I assume if I leave them they will freeze over winter? Any advice please?

Are they in pots or in the ground?

If they're in pots, you can move them into the shelter of the house wall or (if you have one) put them in a cold frame. Otherwise, if they're in the ground, your other options if it gets frosty are to cover them with fleece, apply a mulch (leafmould or straw) or dig them up and plant them more deeply. But don't panic - most bulbs are pretty tough.

thank you! Some are in pots, some in the ground. Don't know what a cold frame is, so assume we don't have oneSmile.

A fine example of a cold frame!

thank you! No we don't have one.

Cut plastic bottles in half and put one half over each sprouted bulb, like a little cloche. Squash bottles are good for this, or 2l soft drink bottles.

I'll try that!

I've had the same problem! (We've got a lot of early shooting tulips which cost a bit so we were a little worried) Thanks for the tips! I'd wondered if moving them to a sheltered area would help. Will sticking them in the greenhouse make it too hot for them? We've not got a cold frame either.

Thanks!
