Do I need to do anything with my rose bushes for the winter?

I just moved house and in the front garden are several rose bushes that are currently in bloom.

Do I need to do anything to them after the flowers die for the winter?

I've never had a garden before!

Interesting. I assume wait until all of the flowers are gone?

What the others say, cutting back prevents damage to the roots from wind rock. I remember my dad having another pruning session in March/April.

We cut ours back really hard and they go wild again the next year. Enjoy!

Thanks for this - I have also inherited some roses so I have given them a good cut back. Not quite "a few inches from the ground", but back to the main stem (my secateurs couldn't have cut that if I'd tried).
