DP had a look at this and says that oil would not get out of anywhere other than the breather when tipped (if it has one) if its a 4 stroke mower, and he thinks the breather would feed back into the carburettor anyway.

DP says from your description that you have probably just tipped petrol everywhere when you looked at it and you don't really need to worry about this as petrol evaporates.

Have you checked your oil level to confirm a leak? If you have a proper oil leak, he says its best to get it looked at though - could be something dead easy, although he says he doesn't understand why oil would leak out of the filter. He asked what make is it?

DP is out at the moment, but I will ask him tomorrow if I get chance.

What colour was the stuff that leaked originally? Has it left a clean patch or a dirty patch?

Ours is a Honda but I'm not sure what model. I'll get back to you!

Yours is the same as ours!

If your oil level is full and you had it on its side when whatever it was came out, most likely you tipped the petrol out. You'd have dirty greasy marks if oil is leaking out but very clean parts if petrol tipped out. In the very likely event of it being petrol there will be no trace of it left - no smell, no nothing (other than a clean bit). Oil is filthy greasy and smelly.

What DP actually said last night when he got in at midnight and I told him you had a Honda Izzy was - "right, not some rubbish thing then. won't be oil".

Hope this helps! I suppose in the unlikely event of you actually having a leak you would certainly smell it before it combusted. Hot oil stinks and smokes like you wouldn't believe!

Got DP to look at your post again - he said it definitely won't go "bang" and also muttered something about "wouldn't worry about it its only a bit of oil" (you'd probably have to appreciate the amount of oil round here from the 5 vehicles he owns to appreciate that he really means that)

Seems from your last post that its not leaking anymore so all should be well and you and it are not going to go bang.

One thing that struck me from your post though - if it was brand new in May is it not still under some sort of Warranty? Ideal time of year to send it back if it is!

And further to all of this, when you clean the blade, do you get all the clumps of grass out from their hidey places? They are renowned for rotting if you don't. Get them all out and dry it all off, and then spray liberally with WD40. I do that about once a month in mowing season.

Hope this helps. Keep posting if you're not sure about something and I'll keep bothering him - about time he earned his keep!!!

Lol at "feeling like a girl"

Ask them what their policy is re warranty. Can't see how you'd end up with a bill over it(so long as you don't say anything about tipping or otherwise i.e. maintain it must be faulty)

Its a great time of year to do it as you sure can't mow with it now - whats the worst that can happen? You get your mower back in the same (fine and dandy) condition that you sent it in!

Ask the question - it won't hurt.

Yes, deffo clean for England - they are known to rot and that won't be covered I can guarantee you. Don't ever use anything metal to scrape the clods off. An old slightly square ended wooden spoon is best (square bit and handle) or a stick. Never use metal as it will scratch and the rot will set. Tip on side in sunshine to dry after use (not the petrol leaking side, obviously and spray liberally afterwards with WD40

HTH!
